EXTRACTIONS IN WINDSOR, CO

Wisdom Teeth

Wisdom teeth are the last set of teeth to become fully developed. Depending on the ease of cleasability or amount of space in the mouth, you may have a need to have these teeth removed. With digital x-rays taken in the office at Northern Smiles Family Dental will be able to evaluate the development and need for removal of your wisdom teeth. If having them removed is the best option for your long-term dental health, a discussion with Dr. Nielson will help determine the best course of action to make sure you are taken care of while staying as comfortable as possible.

Extraction

There are occasions where any heroics to save a tooth may not be the best option for long-term success and the tooth may need to be removed. In many instances, this is a service that Dr. Nielson will be able to provide. There may be certain instances where a referral to an oral surgeon may be required.

Extraction Site Preservation (Bone Graft)

When having a tooth removed, it is always important to have an idea of how you will want to fill in that missing space. Dr. Nielson will spend time with you and determining the best restorative option for you. In many instances, a dental implant to replace a missing tooth is the best long-term option. In order to place an implant in a location where a tooth has been removed, you must have enough bone remaining to provide stability for the implant. In order to have more predictable bone for placement of an implant, Dr. Nielson will recommend that a bone graft be placed at the time of extraction. This will provide a scaffolding for your bodies natural bone making process to make bone more suitable for an implant. Without the bone graft, having a tooth removed can cause some of the bone in that area to degenerate and change enough to where a dental implant may no longer an option.
