There are multiple reasons why it may be suggested that you need a root canal. It could be from having a cavity that is too large allowing bacteria to enter into the area of the tooth that contains the blood vessels and nerves of your tooth. For others, it may be that the nerve of your tooth has died and now is causing jaw pain or even hurting when biting and chewing food. In either situation, your tooth would now require a root canal. As there are many with fears of having a root canal, Dr. Nielson will spend time with you explaining what is being done and talk you through the process in order to make you feel more comfortable. Once the root canal has been completed, your tooth will typically require a crown to be placed to repair missing tooth structure and provide long-term stability. Depending on time and the severity of the infection, the root canal and crown can all be completed in one visit.
